Q-OmicS Lab Published “Exploring the protein signature of endometrial cancer: A comprehensive review through diverse samples and mass spectrometry-based proteomics”

Our graduate student Öykü Su Yıldırım and alumni member Pelin Yıldız’s paper, titled “Exploring the protein signature of endometrial cancer: A comprehensive review through diverse samples and mass spectrometry-based proteomics” where they are the first authors, has been published. The paper, co-authored by Abdullah Karaer, Jean Calleja-Agius, and our  PI Sureyya Ozcan, became available online on 24 October, 2024, in the European Journal of Surgical Oncology.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the 4th Scientific Meeting: Proteomics Applications in Biomarker Discovery, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Clinical Research

Q-OmicS lab gathered for the AnkaTheraHub Scientific Meeting Series under the theme “Proteomics Applications in Biomarker Discovery, Diagnostic, and Therapeutic Clinical Research” on October 25, 2024. The event covered a range of innovative topics, from therapeutic glycoprotein analysis to mass spectrometry in clinical applications. Our esteemed PI, Assoc. Q-OmicS Lab Published “Tissue, serum, and saliva sampling for proteomic analysis”

Our esteemed PI, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sureyya Ozcan, and our collaborator Dr. Burak Veli Kabasakal have published a new paper titled Tissue, Serum, and Saliva Sampling for Proteomic Analysis” in the Reference Module in Chemistry, Molecular Sciences and Chemical Engineering.

This study which became available online on 20 September, 2024, explores essential techniques and procedures for collecting and handling biological samples—specifically tissue, blood, and saliva—in proteomic research.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the AnkaTheraHub Trainings

Our graduate students Öykü Su Yıldırım and Ceren Kul have completed training on “Capillary Electrophoresis” at AnkaTheraHub. 

In addition, Gizem Biter and Öykü Su Yıldırım participated in peptide synthesis training on the “CEM Liberty Prime 2.0 Peptide Synthesizer” from March 11-13, 2024. 

Three of them also completed “Agilent 1290 UPLC” training in August 2024. 

These training sessions are pivotal in advancing their proteomic research skills and will contribute significantly to their future academic achievements.

Q-OmicS Lab was in the News “Yeşil Hat”

Q-OmicS Lab conducting research on “Sustainable Alternative Plant-Based Protein Chain” within the Sustainable Agriculture Technologies Platform (S-ATP) for Agricultural Production in Turkey, a platform established to develop, disseminate, and implement innovative and sustainable technologies to help the agricultural sector adapt to global climate change. The research focuses on agriculture-based food technologies to support sustainable plant protein sources. Our esteemed PI, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sureyya Ozcan, provided insights on extracting and utilizing protein from fruit leaves in an interview with Anadolu Agency “Yeşil Hat”.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the 9th International Caparica Conference on Analytical Proteomics (ICAP) 2024 and Won the Shotgun Communication Prize

Our graduate member, Ceren Kul presented her research at the 9th International Caparica Conference on Analytical Proteomics (ICAP), held on June 23-27, 2024. During the event, she was awarded the Shotgun Communication Prize for their project titled “From Twenty Peptides to a Single Protein: Investigation of Peptide-Centric Targeted Proteomics.” Also, she contributed to the poster session with her study.

Q-OmicS Lab was at METU Department of Chemistry Research Poster Presentations

On May 30, 2024, our undergraduate member Zeynep Büvi Kuçar presented her senior project poster titled “Investigation of Different Calibration Approaches in Quantitative Proteomics.”

Her work showcased insightful research into calibration methods, contributing to advancements in quantitative proteomics.

Q-OmicS Lab had a guest: Shimadzu LC-MS/MS 8060

From January 15 to April 30 2024, we were fortunate to have the Shimadzu LC-MS/MS 8060 available in our lab, where it played an essential role in advancing our work on the Tubitak 1001, COST and GAP projects. This powerful instrument provided valuable support to our ongoing research efforts.

We’re also pleased to announce that Q-OmicS students Öykü Su Yıldırım, Kerim İnce, and Ceren Kul successfully completed their training on the Shimadzu LC-MS/MS 8060, equipping them with the skills to further their research using advanced mass spectrometry techniques.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the Thesis Defence

We’re thrilled to share that Dila Bilgen has successfully defended her thesis, titled “Investigation of Protein Products under Different Digestion Conditions.” Her research journey has been marked by hard work, curiosity, and a deep commitment to exploring new frontiers in proteomics.

Q-OmicS Published “Structural proteomics of a bacterial mega membrane protein complex: FtsH-HflK-HflC”

Our members Hatice Akkulak and Hayri Kerim İnce, as first authors, have published their paper, titled “Structural Proteomics of a Bacterial Mega Membrane Protein Complex: FtsH-HflK-HflC”. Co-authored by Günce Göç from the BvK LaB group and Professor Carlito B. Lebrilla and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sureyya Ozcan Kabasakal, this study became available on April 30, 2024, in the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules.

Prof. Dr. Hyun Joo An’s visit at the Q-OmicS Lab

Esteemed Professor. Dr. Hyun Joo An honored us with her visit to our laboratory and seminars about glycomics across the country. She began her visit with her seminar at Erciyes University on the 20th of October, followed by a second seminar held at our university on the 24th and finally at Koç University-KUTTAM on the 27th. We sincerely thank Prof. Dr. Hyun Joo An for sharing her expertise and passion in the field of glycomics. 

We also had a delightful time with Prof. Dr. Hyun Joo An and her dear daughter, with our visits to several locations in the city as well as our Halloween celebrations.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the 1st NaFOST and Won Undergraduate Poster Competition in 1st Place

The Congress on Innovative Approaches in Food Science and Technology (NAFoST) took place at Izmir Institute of Technology (IYTE). NAFoST, with our alumni Berkay Berk on the organizing committee, was held on September 28-29.

Our member Elif Akmermer and our beloved professors Sureyya Ozcan, Burak V. Kabasakal and Mecit Oztop participated with her undergraduate poster named “Proteomic Analysis of Sugar Beet Leaves”. In the competition, Elif’s poster received the first prize among undergraduate students.

At Q-OmicS, we celebrated this joyful news together.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the Thesis Defense

Our former MSc student, Hatice Akkulak, successfully defended her thesis, titled as “Structural Proteomics of FtsH Complexes using Cross-linking Mass Spectrometry”, on August 14th. 

The whole Q-OmicS and TARLA team celebrated this joyful event with esteemed professors and precious friends. 

Hatice started her PhD after the official graduation. 

As Q-OmicS team, we are wishing her a successful and happy PhD life!

Q-OmicS Lab was at the III. Structural Biology Workshop

Hatice Akkulak and Hayri Kerim İnce was at the III.Structural Biology Workshop at Koç University. 

The workshop, with our collaborator professor Burak V. Kabasakal on the organizing committee, was held on 25 April.

Our members have attended theoretical lectures about structural biology methods and held experiments with X-Ray crystallography methods for two days.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the HIBIT 2022 (15th International Symposium on Health Informatics and Bioinformatics)

Hatice Akkulak and Hayri Kerim İnce were at 15th International Symposium on Health Informatics and Bioinformatics (HIBIT 2022) with their poster presentation. They presented their study about XL-MS Software comparison with the title “Comparison of XL-MS Software to Identify Protein Interactions”. 

Also, our esteemed principal investigator (PI), Sureyya Ozcan, presented her “Dancing in the Dark: Discovering the Boundaries” presentation at the symposium.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the TuPA’22 (International Proteomics Congress)

Our Research Assistant Dila Bilgen and MSc student Ceren Kul joined the TUPA’22 in İzmir on October 14/15, 2022.

They did a poster presentation titled “Investigation of Protein Denaturation Using Spectroscopic Methods” through out two days that shined a new perspective to a crucial part of the proteomics studies.

Also Dila Bilgen has joined a course/workshop for Targetted Mass Spectrometry on October 13, 2022.

Q-OmicS Lab was at ACS Fall 2022

Our esteemed principal investigator (PI), Dr. Sureyya Ozcan, presented at the American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall 2022 Meeting held in Chicago this year. 

Accommodately to the meeting theme, “Sustainability in a Changing World,” she delivered her presentation titled “Green Proteome: Waste into Wealth” on August 24th. 

We also congratulate our alumni member Ece Goktayoğlu and our esteemed academicians Mecit Halil Oztop and Burak V. Kabasakal, who were co-authors of the abstract of the presentation.

Q-OmicS Lab Was At GYNOCARE Skopje'22 Training School on Rare Gynaecological Cancer

As a part of the Training School on Rare Gynaecological Cancer, our esteemed principal investigator (PI), Dr. Sureyya Ozcan gave a talk on integrative omics strategies for rare gynaecological diseases.

The meeting was organized by the European network for Gynaecological Rare Cancer Research.

The aim was to develop a network between key stakeholders across 5 domains: Basic research on rare gynaecological cancer, Biobanking, Legal and regulatory issues, Industrial dimension to bridge the gap between translational research and pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies, and Designing high-quality, international, and innovative clinical trials.

On July 6, 2022, Ceren presented her poster titled “Investigation of Protein Denaturation Using Spectroscopic Methods,” highlighting her research into protein denaturation. 

This event was a fantastic opportunity for knowledge exchange and allowed our lab to connect with fellow researchers in the field of chemistry.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the FunTomP Project Board Meeting

Q-OmicS Lab participated in the 1st FunTomP Project Board Meeting held at Ege University in İzmir. Our PI, Dr. Sureyya Ozcan, along with graduate student Ece Göktayoğlu and undergraduate member Elif Akmermer, represented the team at the event.

Ece Göktayoğlu delivered a presentation, providing an update on her progress within the project and showcasing the contributions from our lab. This meeting marked a valuable milestone, fostering collaboration and progress in the FunTomP initiative.

Our esteemed PI, Dr. Sureyya Ozcan, joined the 4th Research and Innovation Workshop, organized by Erciyes University, which took place at the Erciyes Cultural Center on June 9-10.

The workshop focused on the theme “Sustainable Agricultural Collaborations Based on the Green Deal,” bringing together experts to discuss innovative solutions for sustainable agricultural practices aligned with environmental goals.

Q-OmicS Lab made its mark at the ACS Spring 2022 conference, themed “Bonding Through Chemistry,” held in March 2022 in California, USA. Our PI, Dr. Süreyya Özcan, delivered an insightful oral presentation titled “Insights into Quantitative Proteomics,” co-authored with graduate student Pelin Yıldız. This presentation highlighted advancements and methods in quantitative proteomics, emphasizing its importance in the field.

Q-OmicS Lab participated in the II. National Structural Biology Workshop, which took place at the Biotype and Genome Center in İzmir. During the event, our esteemed PI, Dr. Sureyya Ozcan, delivered an oral presentation.

Q-OmicS Lab participated in the 32nd National Biochemistry Congress, held in October 2021 in Gaziantep, Türkiye. Graduate student Pelin Yıldız presented her research with an oral presentation titled “Evaluation of Proteolytic Digestion Products for Targeted Proteomics Studies,” co-authored by our PI, Dr. Sureyya Ozcan. PhD student Nasim Allahyari also joined the congress, showcasing our lab’s active engagement in the field of biochemistry and proteomics.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the FoodEnTwin Symposium: Novel Analytical Approaches in Food and Environmental Sciences

In June 2021, Dr. Sureyya Ozcan and our alumni member Pelin Yıldız attended the FoodEnTwin Symposium in Belgrade, Serbia, where Dr. Süreyya Özcan Kabasakal presented “Insights into quantitative proteomics”. 

The event provided a great platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the field of analytical sciences.

Q-OmicS Lab was at the TuPA 2020 International Proteomics Congress

Q-OmicS Lab members participated in the TuPA 2020 International Proteomics Congress and the 3rd Turkish National Proteomics Congress, held in February 2020 in Istanbul, Türkiye. Graduate student Pelin Yıldız represented our lab, completing specialized traineeships focused on bottom-up proteomics analysis. 

Pelin’s involvement highlighted Q-OmicS Lab’s commitment to advancing proteomics knowledge and skills through active participation in national and international scientific platforms.
